Foster homes

If you think you meet the requirements for keeping a galgo, but cannot commit to caring for it for the rest of its life, you might consider fostering.

Like this you can help a greyhound to prepare for life with a family; something most of them have never experienced, having lived in cages and knowing only the world of competition.

The heart of SOS Galgos

The foster homes are the foundation of the work of SOS Greyhounds. Without them, we could never save as many dogs, nor have them as well prepared to enter life with their adopting families.

It is not easy to part with a dog in which you have invested so much time and love. But each adoption means releasing a foster home to save another greyhound in need. And that is the most important thing.

The first step to a new life

Being a foster home is a very important responsibility. For the dog it is the first experience of family life, with its norms, standards and obligations. It is also their first experience of care, affection and education.

The foster home is the ideal environment to allows us to make a critical evaluation of the dog. To decide whether he or she can live with adults, children, cats or other pets.
Once evaluated, the galgo will be ready to be adopted into the family that best suits their temperament.

The rescued dogs often suffer from anxiety and is very important to treat this, enabling them to lead a serene and tranquil life and hence become an ideal pet for any home.

Successfully managing the foster period without causing to much stress is an important part of the adoption process for a galgo, since making the change to become a domestic pet is a great transformation in their lives.
